2 Month Shots

Jordan did fantastic with her first round of two month shots yesterday. She cried for a second after the first one, then calmed down. The next two really ticked her off ("Seriously, guys! The first one was bad enough!") But all together she cried for a few minutes and then went back to being our sweet baby bird. Mom surprised herself by not crying at all.

Our 9 week old little girl now weighs 9 lbs 14 oz which is staying right on track with the 25th percentile.

Jordan - 2 Months!

Time seems to be flying so fast with Jordan. We are loving getting to know our baby girl as she changes and grows everyday. Right now, she is really making lots of baby noises - which is so much fun. She concentrates as you talk to her, tries to mimic your facial expressions and seems to be thinking "HOW ARE YOU DOING THAT?"



She has also started grinning (not just smiling - we are talking open mouth, full out grins)and laughing. It has become our new favorite pastime getting her to smile and laugh. She even started blowing spit bubbles this week - which doesn't sound very cute, but somehow she even does that and manages to stay cute.



She loves taking baths and swimming - we even dipped her toes in the ocean for the first time this week.



She is a fun, happy baby (All her 2nd month photos can be seen here). She is sleeping 6-8 hours at night so her parents are happy, too! We are enjoying our life in Charleston and looking forward to a trip to Missouri in October. Hope all is well.

Jordan - 1 Month

It's hard to know where to start a post about Jordan (especially because it's so late). She continues to grow so much and change everyday. I feel so blessed to have such a happy, healthy baby and be able to spend my days taking care of her. All of the photos from her first month can be found here.

She continues to be a good sleeper - usually gets up once a night to eat. At this stage (1 month) her likes seem to sound like a personal ad: Jordan enjoys long walks on the beach (okay, walks anywhere), she enjoys sunsets (okay, any sunlight) and taking a long bath. She loves dogs - except when they lick too much.

What can you say about parenthood that hasn't already been said? Probably nothing. It's amazing and changes your life in a great way. You can't believe how much you love them before they are born, but at the moment they become yours- you truly feel your heart grow. It's a lot of work, but it's the best kind of work you can do. It changes your priorities and makes you want to do and be better yourself. Doug probably said it best. When we were out on our first date night (courtesy of babysitter Grandma Ceil)- I mentioned that our life was so much different now. He said, "I know, isn't it great?" Yes - it is.

Visitors

Right before we left North Carolina. On the hottest day of my life. With our one week old daughter. Whew!

Doug and I were lucky to have lots of visitors during the first weeks of Jordan's life. My mom came to North Carolina one week before my due date to be here when she was born. I feel so lucky to be able to share in the birth of my daughter with my own mom. Such a great experience. She was able to help us with the move and baby and stay until we were settled.

Doug's parents were scheduled to come into town for his graduation/birthday and ended up getting here the day after she was born (how's that for timing?) Doug's brother Pat also came into town, so we had a full house. We also had friends stop by to meet Jordan and unfortunately say goodbye. It is so hard to say goodbye to friends and wonderful memories that we made these past four years in North Carolina. But we are looking forward to the next step and great things to come this year.

Welcome to the World Baby Girl!

On Wednesday morning, the day before my scheduled induction - I started having active contractions around 3:00 AM and we went to the hospital around 9:30 AM. By that time, my contractions were coming around a minute apart.

All together we were barely at the hospital for 4 hours before she made her appearance. In fact, my mom had to run to the car to grab the camera right before she was born.

Jordan Marie Burgess was born on June 16 at 2:06 PM. She was 7 lbs. 1 oz. and 19 1/4 inches long. She has blond hair, blue eyes and is completely healthy. She is beautiful and gets cuter every single day.

Overdue & What to do?

Being overdue was probably the hardest part of my pregnancy. Normally, I don't think it would have been a huge deal, except we were moving to South Carolina soon after her due date. And everyday that I went over was one day closer to the move. Oh, and did I mention it was brutally hot? After our first trip to Labor & Delivery. Early labor at 40 Weeks.

So when you are 41 weeks pregnant - what do you do?

We taught Willie to catch a Frisbee. Which may not sound that amazing, except this is a dog who exclusively caught tennis balls. Getting him into a new genre was quite a feat.

We walked. Everywhere. We tried to think of new places that were inside to stay out of the heat. I can now say that I have walked every single aisle at Lowe's. It took hours.

We took Mom to Wilmington - one of our favorite places and had dinner at our favorite restaurant. We watched a Durham Bulls game.
