Happy 28!

Today is Doug's birthday, so here's wishing him a very happy 28th birthday. I always love the 6 months that we are the same age, opposed to the other six months when I'm older :)

Weekend Beach Getaway

Wilmington NightlifeWillie's favorite spot, looking out the window.
We thought this was pretty funny - we took this one for Willie...
On the beach, Sunday afternoon

Doug & I were pretty excited that he had an entire weekend off, so we planned a nice getaway to Wilmington. Because of poor planning (on my part) I didn't make any plans for Willie. We ended up taking him with us and it worked out really well - he had lots of fun. He loves elevators and looking out the hotel window (lots of people watching!)

Wilmington is about 2 hours away, so we got checked in fairly late on Friday night. Saturday it rained, so we went to breakfast, did some shopping and went to a movie. By the evening it had cleared up and we had an incredible dinner at a nice seafood restaurant in downtown Wilmington. We were able to eat outside on a private balcony and enjoy the nice weather. We then listened to some music at several places and called it a night.

We were excited to wake up Sunday to beautiful, clear weather - so we were able to get in a few nice hours at the beach before grabbing a late lunch and heading back home. We always have fun in Wilmington - it's such a great little town. Plus, it's such a treat to get away for a few days!

Green Fridays

The following is a new initative from the agency where I work. Pretty excited about Green Fridays.

06/19/08 NEWS BRIEF - Koroberi Inc Launches New Summer Program

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Koroberi, Inc., a full-service integrated marketing firm specializing in business-to-business, business-to-engineer and business-to-health communications, has launched a new summer program designed to reduce commuting time and costs while maintaining excellent client service and workplace productivity. The agency’s summer program, dubbed “Green Fridays” by the staff, offers employees every other Friday off through Labor Day. All employees are required to work one extra hour every day, and are divided into teams to ensure full coverage and client service on every business day.

Over the past 30 years, the Triangle’s population has grown 70 percent, significantly increasing the number of cars and emissions affecting the environment. In addition, a recent Forbes survey named the Triangle number two on its list of the worst commutes in small cities. The Forbes report also found that area commuters spend about 35 hours a year in rush hour congestion.Employees are already benefiting from the new policy. “Green Fridays are a great way for all of us to save energy and have more time to enjoy the summer,” said Erika Golden, public relations account executive. “I live in Raleigh and commute an average of 55 miles every day. I’m spending ten hours less in traffic and reducing my carbon footprint. As the price of gas continues to rise, the cost savings will really add up.”

Twin Weekend!

Megan, Katie & I in the Tabacco District

Kate & me at Duke Gardens

Me & Megan in front of our house

Doug and I are always so excited when folks make the trek out to visit us in NC. So we were thrilled to host our friends Kate & Megan this weekend! We had a great time showing the girls around & spending time with our favorite twin sisters :)

They made the long drive from Missouri on Friday and arrived late that night. We stayed up way too late catching up. On Saturday we went to Duke Gardens and had lunch at the Federal. We also grabbed drinks outside in the Tobacco District. We finished the day with a lazy movie night and casual dinner on the patio.

Sunday was a great day - we headed down to Wilmington in the morning. We did a little shopping and ate lunch while it was raining and headed to the beach once the weather cleared. We window shopped in Wilmington with our ice cream dinner. The ride back home was a blast - with Megan playing iPod DJ. It was a great weekend - with wonderful friends. We can't wait to see them again soon!

Carpooling, Jazzercize, Gas Prices, Oh My!

Since I haven't blogged in a LONG time, I thought I would make a quick update.

Reasons I haven't blogged:

1. It's crazy hot here. It's been over 100 degrees for the past five days. Recently, we have gotten a reprieve (only in the 90's yesterday). Basically, it's been too hot to do anything but go to the pool.
2. We lost our camera. One Bulls Game (and honestly maybe one beer) too many and we got home with no camera. No pictures = no fun things to blog about.

I did want to let everyone know that I am doing a little something to reduce my carbon footprint - I now carpool to work with my friend Lauren. It's pretty great. Besides having someone to talk to and reducing our gas budget by 40%, we are both people who dislike driving in general, so our two days a week as passengers is pretty great.

We also began talking about how we wanted to work out more and brilliantly came up with the idea of going to Jazzercise class. I'm not going to even try to explain it - Lauren did such a fantastic job- so check out her blog.
